Our members
“Learn2Change – Global Network of educational activists” unites civil society activists from all over the world. Some members of the network work with formal others with informal organisations in their countries on local, regional or national level for a globally just and ecologically sound presence and future. They work with various topics, target groups and methods. This diversity is our treasure and strength and it unites us as well as the strong believe in the transformative power of education.
Aleksandar Slijepčević, Perpetuum Mobile
Aleksandar Slijepčević works as Project Coordinator for “Young Men Initative“ project in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina in the NGO „Perpetuum Mobile – Institute for Youth and Communithy Development“. He has several years experience in gender transformative program for prevention of violence and gender equality empowerment and he is very dedicated on change attitudes and norms of young people regarding healthy life styles, violence and drug abuse.
Andreas Joppich
I am supporting NGOs in project design, fundraising and management. Thereby I am involved in a range of topics from global learning, via community development to support for marginalised youths and crime intervention. Outside Germany, I am working on health education in Belarus and human rights in Tunisia. I am also working as facilitator (future workshops, dialogue-methodology, open-space) and trainer (anti-bias, global learning, forum theatre).
Anne Kress, Ökumenisches Zentrum Oldenburg
I organize a Fair Trade coffee project for the Ecumenical Centre in Oldenburg. Besides, I am engaged in environmental activities for children and within the programme „Education meets development“ at schools. I look at ways how children and youth can get an understanding of everyday life within selected countries, by picking up issues like culture, childhood, environmental situation and compare this with the experience kids have made here.
Antje Rendigs
In the past fifteen years, I have been working in a Madagascar-Germany-Switzerland network to plan and conduct environmental education and lemur conservation projects in Madagascar. I am looking forward to exchange on international cultural and scientific endeavors, and decolonization approaches.
April Lai, Green Glass Green
I am an activist in labor/woman/green movement. I worked with Hongkong Confederation of Trade Unions as union organizer and educator for transport worker, domestic worker and government contract out staff. In the last years, the green movement broadens my horizon to the peace that we need to rebuild with the nature. I am now an advocate to revert the manner of instant-throwing-away-unwanted resources that penetrates in affluent post-industrial society like Hongkong.
Barbara Brunner, 3WF Hannover
After studying fashion design in Germany and Sweden I worked in different projects to sensitise young people to the impacts of todays fashionindustry. Together with the ev. luth. Missionswerk Niedersachsen (ELM) and students of the Hochschule Hannover I developed the exhibition ‚mode.macht.menschen‘ www.mode-macht-menschen.de. At the moment I am working with the 3WF in Hannover.

Christian Cray, Fundación EcoCiencia
Education can be a strong tool to support community-based human rights defenders and Rights of Nature activists in Ecuador/South America. I work mostly with indigenous umbrella organisations and amazon forest communities in organisational strengthening and counselling. I am also passionate about doing theatre work and video productions to protect and empower human and territorial rights against the extractivist industries‘ activities like crude oil, mining, agro-business or other threats that indigenous communities and their ancestral lands face.
Christine Höbermann, 3WF Hannover
I am committed to global justice since the 1980s, when I began to volunteer in the solidarity movement with Nicaragua. On a scientific level, I specialised in communication systems and their impacts on society. My organisational home base s 3WF Hannover and I´m volunteering in the Clean Clothes Campaign. I am focussing on communicating complex global issues, especially to young and disadvantaged people. In this network, I am advisor for the website and the online workroom.
Claudia Gimena Roa Avendaño, Fundaexpresión
I am currently the director of Fundaexpresion, an intercultural, educational and environmentalist NGO in Colombia. My main role is to develop participatory methodologies, rural – urban dialogue and popular education strategies on food sovereignty and defense of territories and to promote local markets. I work with peasant farmers, women’s and youth groups and participate in networks and campaigns on issues of biodiversity, women and climate justice.
Gabriele Janecki, Verein Niedersächsischer Bildungsinitiativen (VNB)
I am organizing a wide range of projects and events with the goal to strengthen global learning and education for sustainable development in all educational sectors. A special focus of my work lies in the building of alliances and networks of diverse organizations and activists in order to support their educational work for the achievement of global justice. Together with Sarah Laustroer, I am coordinating the Learn2Change-network.
Gaia Sanvicente Traverso, Prabrincá Creative Lab
I work as an environmental educator, conducting projects and training courses for teachers and young people from public schools of Rio de Janeiro related to sustainability and environmental issues such as basic sanitation, waste sorting, organic agriculture among others. Currently working at Prabrincá Creative Lab.
Geofrey Nsubuga, Somero Uganda
I am the national coordinator and a founder member of Somero Uganda organization. I am actively involved in Global Education and is a partner of the Global Education Network GLEN. I developed an ICT skills development program as an avenue for global learning among out of school youth. I have experience working with children and young women.

Since 2000 I’m director of the Bremen Information Center for human rights and development (biz), a small Bremen-based ngo. Major fields of my work are fair trade, the clean clothes campaign, sustainable development and education for sustainable development.
Gilbert Kofi Germain, Young and Lonely Foundation
Gilbert Kofi Germain is the founder and the chief servant of the Young and Lonely Foundation. He is passionate about supporting the vulnerable to improve their social functioning in the society. He is also a member of the disciplinary committee of the St. Germain School in Agona Swedru and the director for community engagement of TEAM CSR Ghana, a research based organisation.

As founder of Modèle de L‘ Union Africaine, I always used to work on issues and topics in relation with Youth and new generations, in national level but also in the African level. Because I believe that to make a change we have to do it in a basic stage. I focused most on Human Rights issues and social rights (health, migration, equality, racism…), Education & Sciences and Social Justice.

I am founder and coordinator of the NGO peer-leader-international, and consultant for global learning and participation of youths. Peer-Leader International offers young people the opportunity to check their own possibilities and capacities, to learn about new things and to prepare themselves for an open-minded, cosmopolitan, committed and self-determined life. Joseph Kenson Sakala, Youth for Environment and Sustainable Development (YSD)
Grown up in a community that saw great conflict between man & nature, not to mention climate vulnerability. My passion drove me to stand on the gap between man & nature with hope to influence a better tomorrow. At 23 years, I founded an environmental NGO in Malawi, later graduated with a BSc in Environmental Science to complement my work. Working with youth, small-scale farmers in rural communities & workshops has defined my journey as a Nature & Climate Activist till now.

I manage the “Initiative for an international cultural-exchange” IIK, an intercultural, social and educational organization in Germany. I am planning and executing projects in order to bring people of different countries and cultural background together. By connecting people, I try to build a base for a better understanding. Guiding and counselling immigrants and refugees in their daily lives is also part of my work. Furthermore, I am a trainer for global learning.
Louis Zulu, Aware and Fair School Club
My professional career is teaching Social and Development Studies and French. I have 14 years teaching experience, now working as Deputy Head Teacher at Stella Maris Secondary School. In 2012, I founded a school club which is called „Aware and Fair“ under International Fair Trade Movement as a way of making students drivers of social change in their schools and communities while still at school and even after leaving school.

I conduct projects and seminars for youth and adults regarding global and intercultural learning, diversity and peace education at the documentation center about war and peace issues. Furthermore I work within the peer leader international network doing local and international facilitating with young activits, who want to make change happen.Voluntarily I am active in an local antiracist movement and organising refugee solidarity work.
Maissara Saeed, German Sudanese Association for Development (G.S.A.D.) / Umbaja e.V.
I had raised the motto: Connect people, help people! I found myself as a connector between two different cultures: the African and the European. Globally I am focusing on the education in the fields of migration and human rights in the European context as well as the education about poverty and eradication of it. I do believe in (thinking out of the box) in my global learning engagements through evidence-based activism in the associations and a business I founded in Germany.
Malin Veenhuis
Spending a political and educational year abroad in South Africa with the VNB and the NGO Peer-leader-International (former Mirantao) changed my way of thinking and taking action in global issues. I am studying early childhood education and mostly paying attention to the question how to start building a new tomorrow by teaching and showing the kids how to take action and to be responsible today.

Markus Auditor, Universität Kassel
Markus Auditor has many years of practical experience in development policy (education) cooperation in Germany and Brazil. Since 2010 he coordinates the Transcultural Education Department at the University of Kassel and implemented various international learning projects in cooperation with universities in Brazil and Portugal as well as civil society organisations and initiatives. His main topics are Global learning and education for sustainable development, inter/transcultural pedagogy, migration/integration and internationalisation of higher education.
Mencay Patricia Nenquihui Nihua, Asociación de Mujeres Waorani de la Amazonía Ecuatoriana (AMWAE)
I am the president of the association of the women of the Waorani (AMWAE). The Waorani live in the biosphere reserve Yasuní in Ecuador. They have only been in contact with western civilization for two generations. AMWAE works for the visibility of the Waorani in the Ecuadorian Society and fights for the rights of the indigenous people. The AMWAE works against deforestation and illegal hunting and presents alternative income by the cultivation of ecological cocoa.
NiNa Reichert, ASA-Program
I’m passionate about questions of (global) solidarity, social justice and transformative learning processes. About dismanteling western narratives that have shaped and continue to shape mental landscapes. About listening to marginalized stories and supporting giving new footnotes to old ones. Currently, I work for the ASA-Programm, a global learning program for young People. There, I’m coordinating the ASA-volunteers’ activities and working on the concept of Global Learning Attitude, facilitating self-reflection processes of global actors.
Patrick Waeber
I am zoologist by training, with focus on primates, and special affinities to forest ecosystems. I am interested in the interplay of landscapes, wildlife, people and policies. I am working on complex system problems using transdisciplinary methods. Project focus are the tropics. My favorite tools are games. My credo: boundaries are to be challenged creatively.

I work with Prayas Centre For Labour Research and Action on issues of the tribal and other poor informal and unorganized sector wage labourers as they migrate to cities in Gujarat, India, and aredeprived of education, childcare, health and food rations, safe housing and social security. Earlier in Rajasthan, I worked with the tribal community on Education, Women’s Empowerment, forest-based livelihoods.

Rene Susa, EarthCare
I work as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of British Columbia, Canada. I’m interested in exploring the hidden ideas and desires that drive modern global imaginaries and educational pathways that might help us re-orient these desires, disrupt our addictions and satisfaction with modernity and create openings for different (unimaginable) futures. I am part of the EarthCARE educational community, where we engage in pedagogical experiments that seek to integrate ecological, cognitive, affective, relational and economic approaches to local and global justice.
Rita Muckenhirn, La Cuculmeca / Systways
Rita is from Germany, living since 1986 in Nicaragua. The strong solidarity movement in the 1980s motivated her to go there. Together with two nicaraguan women, she is co-founder of the local NGO “La Cuculmeca”. She represents the city partnership between Solingen (Germany) and Jinotega (Nicaragua). In 2012 she created “systways” to work on consultancies in Central America and the Caribbean area. Her contribution is sharing methodologies and tools that combine popular education and the systemic approach for social change.
Robin Stock, FairBindung
I work as a project coordinator for the ASA-Program, a global learning program for young people in Germany, Europe and the world. Here I am in charge of education and training in the field of global learning. I am also involved as an educational activist with the association FairBindung that works especially on the critique on and search of alternatives to the current economic system. I am especially passionate about approaches of “degrowth” and a “great transition” of our economy and society.
Rosa Lynn Grave
Today, global issues concern all of us – we can’t ignore the various linkages between the world’s citizens. With this background, I see myself as a global citizen, engaging in topics such as social and economic justice, global education and the idea of (economic) degrowth. Both in my studies of social work and in my private time I try to anchor changes in my nearby surrounding. Thinking globally – acting locally.
Ruby Hembrom, adivaani
Ruby Hembrom is the founder of adivaani, a publishing and archiving outfit of and by Adivasis–the indigenous peoples of India. She’s a law graduate with a postgraduate diploma in Instructional Design and has 8 years learning and development work experience in the corporate sector. At adivaani she handles editing, communications and marketing. Her three books for children in English are also used as tools to promote language building.
Sabine Meyer, Indisches Haus
I’m an educational activist. Graduate adults- and non-formal education. Targetgroups mainly school children and youth-groups. Topics: reflecting effects of consumption, Fair trade, tourism, food – all in the frame of sustainability and future-transformation. Diverse media and methods: cooking together, philosophical discourse, exibitions and face-to-face dialogue.
Sarah Laustroer, Verein Niedersächsischer Bildungsinitiativen (VNB)
Education, empowerment and cooperation in (global) networks for me are important engines for a change to a socially just and ecologically sound world. Therefore I worked in different projects with youth, young adults and multipliers in the range of global and political education in the last years. Together with Gabi Janecki, I am coordinating the Learn2Change network.
Silvia Hesse, Freundeskreis Malawi
I managed the Agenda 21 Office of the City of Hanover until 2013 and initiated a dialogue process for sustainable development. I am involved in numerous international city networks, e.g. the Climate Alliance of European Cities with Indigenous People. As chairwoman of “Freundeskreis Malawi“, I work with European twin cities as well as the Malawian twin city Blantyre in common projects in the fields of climate protection, water, education, culture, and theatre.
Sisir Dutta, Bangladesh Institute of Theatre Arts (BITA)
As founder of BITA (Bangladesh Institute of Theatre Arts) Sisir Dutta has been working at different fields of performing arts for last 35 years. He developed an Institution Culture & Development Centre in Bangladesh which contributes on cultural promotion, human rights and contemporary development issues. He has got a numbers of edited publications on these sectors. He mainly works with marginalized and deprived community, and grassroots artists.
Sophie Städing, Bildung trifft Entwicklung (BtE)
I am project assistant at IFAK for the program „Bildung trifft Entwicklung“/“Education meets Development“. I organize different educational events, including programs for children during holidays dealing with the subject of global learning. Besides, I am responsible for public relations work.
Timo Holthoff, Verband Entwicklungspolitik und Humanitäre Hilfe (VENRO)
As an educational activist working mainly with multipliers I seek to challenge the mainstream notions of knowledge, education and learning in order to queer the narrow boxes of being that our modern cilivization provides for us. Living in Hannover, I work for VENRO in Berlin, the German Network of NGOs in Development and Disaster Relief, as part of an EU-Project on promoting Global Citizens Education.
Timo Steinert
I focus on the support of multipliers and organizations – formal as nonformal – via trainings, consultancy, lobby and advocacy work. As dialogue is where all starts, one main interest is to bring people together based on a participative and inter-disciplinary perspective. Topic-wise I feel close connected to degrowth and alternative concepts of development, the sustainability approach as well as transformation and “development” on individual scale.
Uli Meinholz, Trommel-Holz
I am a musician and teacher for percussion, songs and dances from West Africa and Brazil. In my journeys as a teacher and trainee, I have worked in many places (in Africa and Europe). I have been dealing with intercultural competence and knowledge transfer for more than 25 years. By trainings at the VEN I have developed my theoretical background/knowledge . Sensitization for racism and self-empowerment are also among my topics.
