OUR VOICES – OUR PLANET I

Global Dialogue and Learning for Democracy and Sustainability

Project duration: 01.01.2021-31.12.2023

The international project OUR VOICES – OUR PLANET brought together educators and civil society actors from Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America to discuss key questions around democracy and sustainability. Jointly they co-developed and implemented both analogue and digital educational formats and events that highlighted the links between democracy and sustainability, incorporated global perspectives, and inspired people to engage in these important processes.

Innovative Educational Resources
The project produced a method manual on democracy and sustainability with global perspectives, presenting a wide range of approaches for educational work. Furthermore, video-Interviews featuring experts from the Global South and North on diverse topics in the frame of sustainability and democracy are published. Interactive online quizzes on “Democracy and Sustainability” and “Digitalization and Sustainability” allow users to engage with the topics in an accessible and playful way. The interactive online text adventure game „OUR VOICES – OUR PLANET – Selma’s Journey“ was developed in close collaboration with project partners in Ecuador and Malawi. It offers an immersive learning experience focused on global issues and participatory engagement. Finally, a self-learning online module provides a low-threshold introduction to the connection between democracy and sustainability.

Participatory Learning Spaces
The project created participatory and learner-centered spaces for discussion and exchange. A wide range of events supported knowledge sharing and engagement, including a series of online discussions with country reports and panel talks, topic-specific workshops, and public lectures for interested audiences. During method training sessions educators could explore and apply the new educational formats developed throughout the initiative. A major highlight was the international in-person conference, complemented by hybrid symposia held in Germany, Tunisia, and Uganda. These focused on the role of civil society in advancing democracy and sustainability.
