Mika Henning is a young German climate activist and engaged since many years in the climate justice movement. Mika expresses in this video the urgent need to become active, on a personal level but also by fighting for deep changes of the politcal and economic sturctures that hinder globally just and sustainable development. Mika considers the privileges enjoyed by climate activists in Germany and the Global North as an obligation to show solidarity with those most affected by climate change and to take action for global climate justice.

Blanca Chancoso is an Ecuadorian educator and indigenous leader of the Otavalo people. She is a human rights activist and defender of the rights of Mother Earth. She is one of the founders of ECUARUNARI (Ecuador Runakunapak Rikcharimuy or Confederation of Peoples of Kichwa Nationality) and of Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE). Blanca has written on the theme of Sumak kawsay, the Good Life. She was a judge at the 2nd International Rights of Nature Tribunal held in Lima. In the interview she talks about the role and importance of community and solidarity based economy models for achieving democracy and sustainability.

Joseph Kenson Sakala is an environmental and climate activist from Malawi. He works with Youth for Environment and Sustainable Development Malawi with climate vulnerable communities towards resilience building on climate impacts to ensure economic stability, food security, good health and wildlife management for the present and future generations. In this interview, he talks about the protection and the use of natural resources and why and how to shape these processes democratically.

What role does the current education system play in maintaining the destructive economic and social system ruling our world? What kind of education would we need to facilitate a global transformation towards social justice and sustainability? The film is about re-imagining education beyond the factory like school systems that colonialism and the western monoculture of education spread around the globe.

Hamza Ghedamsi is a biologist. Despite his scientific background, he has always been involved in civil society and volunteering. In 2013, he founded the Pan-African youth initiative, the non-governmental organization Model African Union (MAU), of which he is chairperson. With MAU, he conducts trainings and simulations on the functioning and operation of the African Union. In 2015, he became a founding member of the Learn2Change-network. In 2019, he founded the „Global Youth Network for Goal 16 – GYN16“ association based in Tunisia, which focuses on SDG 16. Since November 2019, he works as national coordinator for Tunisia on the African Union (AU) and UNDP in a joint project on AU Contracts. In the interview, he advocates for real participation of all to achieve democracy and sustainability in Africa and everywhere in the world.

Claudia Gimena Roa Avendaño is a Colombian human rights and environmental activist. She works with “Colectivo de Reservas Campesinas y Comunitarias de Santander” and “Fundaexpreción” for the rights of Mother Earth, for women’s rights, water rights, in literature, and art processes. In this interview, she gives insights into her perspectives on the interconnection between democracy and sustainability.

Olivia Marcela Zúñiga Cáceres is a human rights activist and politician. She belongs to the Lenca indigenous people, the largest indigenous communitiy in Honduras.
Olivia has dedicated the last years of herlife to fight for justice for Berta Cáceres, a human rights and environmental activist killed due to her work in 2016. Olivia is her eldest daughter. She was a deputy for 4 years, from 2018 to 2021, representing the territory of Intibucá on behalf of the party Libertad y Refundación. She workes for human rights, especially women’s rights since very young.

Bayo Akomolafe speaks about the single story of modernity and its implications for a monoculture of education. He argues for the recognition of diverse forms of learning beyond standardized schooling and for a plurality of educations. Akomolafe is a poet, philosopher, psychologist and a professor at the Covenant University Nigeria.

During an ASA-North-South-Project of the Learn2Change members Somero and VNB e.V, a binational team explored concepts of education and understandings of learning in Germany and Uganda. Doing this, they came up with aspects of a critical analysis of the current (formal) education systems in both countries and gathered ideas and good practices for a different kind of learning and education.
